The Planet Beach Story

 

In April of 1995, CEO Stephen Smith coupled his experience in personal fitness and gym management with an entrepreneurial drive to open “Electric Beach”, a tanning salon in the Uptown district of New Orleans, Louisiana.  Steve Smith’s plan was to bring professionalism and franchising to the indoor tanning industry.

 

The salon became a success, and Smith was prepared to move forward with expansion plans.  The name, however, didn’t quite encompass what the company stood for.  With a change of the name to Planet Beach, Steve began franchising the very next year.  The chain added spa-style treatments in 2005 to enable clients to handle their entire skincare regime in one location.  Thus the Contempo Spa industry was created!

 

Planet Beach is the hottest new concept in the multi-billion dollar wellness industry!  There is no other concept quite like Planet Beach Contempo Spa.  We are in the business of making people look great and feel even better.  Our innovative concept has been well received in the marketplace and the demand for what we provide has reached a record high.  We currently have spa locations throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and we are planning to expand to many more communities globally.

Planet Beach® is revolutionizing the spa industry with our contempo spa business

model. The mission of our franchise is to “Change the Way the World Rejuvenates.”

The Planet Beach® Contempo SpaTM franchise is now expanding throughout 9

countries internationally. New spa locations have recently opened in Dublin, Ireland;

Kent, U.K.; and Cairo, Egypt. We have spa locations under construction as far away as

Johannesbourg, South Africa, as well as Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Tonight you will witness the world’s largest spokesmodel competition. This pageant

is one of the most effective and successful marketing methods we use to promote our

brand. On a national level, it has served as an extension of Planet Beach’s distinct

marketing strategy and we have experienced record-breaking national brand

awareness since its inception. Planet Beach has determined that the entertainment

and promotions route is the most logical brand-building investment for the company.

Now in its 7th year, the Ms. Planet Beach International competition has developed into

a world class pageant system. Our goal is to grow the pageant into a self-funding

promotional vehicle for our franchise locations. As the pageant continues to gain

popularity, we will attract major sponsorships. In 2010, we intend to host the Ms.

Planet Beach International World Finals in New Orleans, LA. With this exciting change,

we will begin to benefit from the Louisiana Film Tax Credit program for the television

show. This tax incentive will send major rebate dollars back into our National

Marketing Fund. The future of this spokesmodel search looks bright indeed

for Planet Beach!

Last year, Planet Beach produced the first ever, one-hour made for television show

based on the Ms. Planet Beach Competition. The television premiere was successfully

syndicated throughout 2009 and aired in markets that represent over 64% of US

households. Additionally, in 2009-2010 the show will air across Canada through

Sun TV and Men TV. These two stations air on cable networks throughout all English

speaking provinces.

Locally and regionally, our franchisees and pageant promoters have staged 68 United

States preliminary events, 33 in Canada and an additional 9 events outside of North

America. These promotions were held at exciting venues and helped spread our

contempo spa message to thousands of people around the globe.

This evening over 70 beautiful and well-spoken ladies will compete for the title of

Ms. Planet Beach International. The 2010 winner will continue to embody the edgy,

entrepreneurial spirit of our brand. She will be the fresh face of our company and the

voice of the franchise for 2010.

The world’s largest and most innovative cover model search, Ms. Planet Beach International, began in 2003 with one competition in Pensacola, Florida.  Franchisees, Travis York and Will Hutchinson, pioneered the idea of hosting a regional Ms. Planet Beach, and it was a huge success.  Later the same year, Planet Beach crowned it’s very first Ms. Planet Beach International Spokes Model.

 

Each year, Planet Beach Contempo Spas throughout the world hold preliminary competitions to launch the search for Planet Beach’s next cover model.  The Ms. Planet Beach International competition, a charitable event, dedicated to finding someone who truly represents the Planet Beach brand and lifestyle to become the company’s voice of the world’s largest Contempo Spa Franchise – Planet Beach.

 

Ms. Planet Beach International title holders have found great success since their reigns, from filming their own fitness video guide to appearing on primetime television.

   

SYNDICATION is when an entity contracts a television distribution company who has multitudes of relationships with television stations. This distribution company is responsible for selling various networks the television production delivered to them by the client. In 2008, Planet Beach contracted Mansfield Television Distribution to syndicate the Ms. Planet Beach International television premiere and the television show hit TV screens across America. During the

broadcast window, February 1- June 1, 2009, the show was aired in markets that represent a grand total

of of US households!

The marketing tactics used during the television show send viewers directly to the website for membership and franchise information, so during the syndication time slot, the web-traffic increased by over 127,000 hits from the 1st quarter of 2008 to the 1st quarter of 2009! And, the Ms. Planet Beach parent website increased from 671 hits in the 2nd quarter of 2008 to 15,271 hits in the 1st quarter of 2009!

Planet Beach’s national television debut in 2009 was a success! This year, the Ms. Planet Beach International World Finals television show promises to be a combination of entertainment, glamour and style with a touch of edge that Planet Beach brings to every event. You will get to know over 70 of the world’s most beautiful women as they prepare to compete for the title of Ms. Planet Beach International. Celebrity host, Lorenzo Lamas, will take us behind-the-scenes of the full week’s activities leading up to the final event that is sure to set the precedent for years to come.
